Candida Albicans, a fungus that looks like white spots on your gums, lives in every person's mouth. In a body kept healthy, this fungus is maintained by helpful bacteria. But antibiotics, birth control, and other similar products actually end up killing and weakening the helpful bacteria that gets rid of the fungus, allowing it to grow on the gums.
Another condition that causes white spots on the gums is one called leukoplakia, which can be found on the gums, inside the cheek, on or under the tongue, or even on the roof of the mouth. These spots might be small, or even up to the size of a quarter; they are not cancerous, however they may indicate a pre-cancerous condition created by frequent irritation in that area. Leukoplakia is often found in people who smoke because there is a constant heat irritation in their mouth from the cigarette or pipe.
If you want to avoid having these white spots form on your gums and are willing to sacrifice a couple hundred dollars for professional help, then the best option for you would be to have an in-office treatment session, especially if you know that you have sensitive gums or teeth.
