Vital Facts About High Cholesterol

Some time ago I was diagnosed with very high cholesterol levels. After he took the time to explain just how dangerous this was, I decided that I needed a lot more information about my condition. And that I did, getting my own problem under control in the process. Trust me when I tell you that controlling cholesterol can be a life-or-death proposition. Maybe you'll also better understand that getting high cholesterol foods out of your diet is very beneficial.

Cholesterol is a vital building block for your body. Every cell in your body uses cholesterol like a bricklayer uses mortar. It's also transformed into bile acid and used in your intestines for digestion.

Most, if not all, of the cholesterol your body needs is made in your liver. From there, it is carried by an enzyme called low density lipoproteins, or LDL, to your cells. Cells that have enough cholesterol when the LDL shows up will just say "No, Thanks" and send the enzyme on it's way.

The problem is, LDL won't carry left over cholesterol back to your liver. It deposits the excess on the inner walls of your arteries. The blood flow in the artery will eventually be choked off, starving the tissue further down the line. Restricted blood flow is a major cause of many heart attacks and strokes.

This is a very basic discussion, of course. I only wish to get you thinking about your own cholesterol levels.
