Prior to overnight car travel, you have many things that you must do first.  A ton of things must be done before you depart.  For instance, you will need to stop delivery on mail and newspapers, ensure that your laundry is clean for the trip, and arrange for lodging of your pets.  But for the trip itself, there are some things you can take that will ensure that your actual travel will be very pleasant.

Secondly, the last thing you want to have happen to you on your trip is to get lost.  Many people have gotten a portable gps system to stay on course.  These units have become so useful and user friendly that they will keep you out of traffic jams.  Getting one of these units is great investment. 

One thing that could essentially ruin your trip is a traffic ticket.  Many people go buy cheap radar detectors before going on long trips.  By getting one of these units, you will not have to worry about traffic tickets.  When you strive to make good time on car trips, your detector will pay for itself very quickly.
